Release Notes
Kavalan Solist ex-Bourbon is a delightfully complex, multi-dimensional single malt whisky, with vanilla, fruit and coconut highlights. Matured in hand selected American ex-Bourbon casks, the whisky is available at cask strength and non chill-filtered hence retains the fuller flavour of the natural single malt whisky.

3rd Party Tasting Notes
Colour?cattle egret
Nose? clean & fresh tropical fruitiness with pleasant vanilla, coconut and spices
Palate? well-balanced natural sweetness, vanilla and oak spices, round and complex with silky smoothness
Kavalan
The nose is fruity with white wine notes as well as some hay and horse feed notes in the background. The palate has the same fruity/malty mix, starting sweet with pears and canned peaches, then malty notes can Cream of Wheat. The finish is just vaguely fruity. This is a nicely drinkable malt.

Taste: fruity!
Alex Powell
Nose: sharp, floral, alcohol
Taste: simple, pleasant, floral and (?)
Finish: smooth fade
Balance: consistent
Andrew Pilgrim
Taste: pear, other fruitiness
Finish: bit rough otherwise good
Ben Kwa
Nose: sour, citrussy, a bit peppery, a rosiness or some sort of flower?
Taste: smooth and spicey, a nice honey sweetness, more of an orange flavor than the lemony nose
Finish: the sweetness actually builds as the alcohol subsides, other flavors fade a bit fast but still very good
Balance: a quite nice progression, balanced very well
David Drell
Nose: light cherry, a bit of pepper, some honey, delicate and lovely
Taste: sweet, flowery, alcohol is subtle
Finish: a subtle, nice warmth lingers in the throat, not at all "burny"
Balance: a lovele, pleasant ride througout. Could be a skooch (sic) more compelx for higher marks.
David Drell
Nose: very unassuming, faint vanilla and orange blossom
Taste: lovely candied intro, this jolly ranger is gone to heaven
Finish: expansive but without new and different avenues
Balance: solid, well-crafted if a little one-note
David Lawson
Nose: bblack licorice, earthy, mossy
Taste: smooth, peppery
Finish: VERY smooth!!
Balance: bit too much alcohol for my taste but excellent finish!
David Menkes
Nose: sweet, smells strong, alcohol burn, bourbon, not particularly notable though
Taste: awesome, full bodied taste, coats the whole mouth
Finish: herbal, sits in the back of the throat
Balance: good, but not great, the taste is above and beyond the nose and finish.
Dmitry Shklyar
Nose: floral, lavender
Taste: cinnamon and pepper
Finish: wonderful coating of the tongue
Balance: fantastic flavor but a bit of a rollercoaster
Jim Leuper
Nose: very clean, balanced, light, yummy
Taste: sweet, warm
Finish: honey, ends slightly hot
Balance: warm and excellent
Josh Richards
Nose: body lotion? nice, integrated, minty, on the very edge of being complex
Taste: nice, expands patiently after gentle hit, rich, voluminous, oily
Finish: goes over the edge nicely
Balance: would be 9s if it wasn't somewhat simple. But brilliant in execution. Wavy development.
Kolja Erman
Nose: dry wood, cork in a good way, honey, dusty
Taste: acerbic and dusty and spicy
Finish: nice warmth
Kolja Erman
Nose: sweet and smokey with just a hint of peat
Taste: earthy front
Nicole Dial
Nose: light, simple, sweet
Taste: again simple but explosive although nothing on the immediate front

Finish: warm, spicy, wonderful!
Balance: great stuff
Tom Owens
Nose: dark chocolate, tea, wonderful
Taste: warm and pungent, really liking the chocolate, almost fudge taste...
Finish: really rich and warm, a very autumnal sensation
Balance: cozy warmth carries all the way through. The chocolaty thing is a surprise! Great stuff!
Tom Owens
Balance: no water: tart, citrus notes, 3 drops water: chocolate notes

The Distillery: Kavalan
Established: 1956

By utilising Taiwan’s unique natural resources and remarkable technological skills, aiming for the first whisky distillery in Taiwan, Kavalan distillery of King Car Group was founded.

King Car group, with more than 2000 employees, was established in 1956 and runs business in several fields: beverages, food, biotechnology, aquaculture, among others. It is particularly famous for its RTD coffee, Mr. Brown which is also available in Europe.

Kavalan group holds their initial hopes and would not give up, aiming to establish the solid foundation of the distillery. The effort goes into every drop of new make spirit and every seasoned cask we choose. Coupled with the mastery of the blender, they ensure the silky smoothness and distinctive flavours of Kavalan whisky. The first bottle of Kavalan was released in December 2008 and now it is the best-selling expression. The recipe of classic Kavalan is complex and contains different types of casks- fresh bourbon, fresh sherry and refill casks rendering the spirit a multilayer of fruity and floral notes.

There is also an incredible visitor centre on site. This neo-Classical visitor centre, or convention centre is decorated with marble internally and dressed stone externally. More than one million visitors come to the distillery per year. It comes as no surprise that Whisky Magazine has named Kavalan distillery 2011 World Icons of Whisky, “Whisky Visitor Attraction of the Year”.

Kavalan, the earliest tribe that inhabited Yilan, represents sincerity, honesty, and the spirit of step-by-step cultivation. Kavalan distillery continues the tradition of passionate commitment to creating the premium whisky.
