Release Notes
The smoky Swedish flavour has arrived Preludium:06 – Fresh Swedish Smoke is a limited edition of young, Swedish malt whisky with a gentle hint of bourbon cask and fresh, Swedish smokiness. Preludium:06 was composed by Distillery Visitor Manager Barbro Hyllengren, who has been with us since the very beginning. The content of Preludium:06 is a blend of our smoky and elegant recipe, stored for four years in old bourbon casks of first-fill quality. The casks have matured in our warehouses on Fjäderholmarna and in the Bodås mine. This base flavour is then augmented with whisky that has been stored in new, 100-litre American oak casks and bourbon casks, as well as some selected casks from our previous pilot production. For optimal flavour, the alcohol strength has been adjusted to 50.5% using distillery water from the Valbo Ridge.

3rd Party Tasting Notes
The colour is a light citrus yellow.
The nose is very fruity, with aromas of lemon, pear, banana and honey, with gentle hints of caramel, roast oak and pepper. It has a very distinctive smoky character with undertones of juniper.
The flavour is fresh, fruity and smoky, with intense vanilla and caramel.
The aftertaste brings sweetness, roast oak cask, smoke and a touch of salt.

Nose: Pale and very plain. Light (cigarette) smoke. Eucalypt, overripe pear. Tequila like. Some warm mashy notes and oak.
Palate: Light and young with some sherbert and lime. Flour and nuts. Clean and zesty but lacks depth.
Finish: Light paraffin.
Comment: Seems slightly forced.Just not knitted.
Rating: 67/100

Nose: Young. Grassy. A fresh bunch of herbal notes; Lemon balm, hay, aniseed. A hint of orange blossom syrup. A touch of thyme essential oil.
Palate: Sweet and light.A smoky nearly sooty note invades the palate and mingles with the sweet maltiness..
Finish: Short,minty.
Comment: A young whisky, frisky and fresh which keeps thin in the middle. Would be interesting to taste it in five years.Encouraging.

Mackmyra Distillery is founded in 1999 by eight classmates from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. The distillery is opened at the old Mackmyra Bruk facilities in buildings that have been declared landmarks.<>During the time of the pilot distillery more than 150 recipes are tried with variations of barley sorts, smoke fuel and yeast strains. The product from this time, some 3,000 liters, are stored in 50 barrels in a small warehouse. The barrels range from 30 to 100 liters. The barrels are made from Swedish oak but also include ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks.<>The commercial distillery goes online in October of 2002 after the development process is completed. Stills from Forsyth's of Rothes in Speyside were installed along with Swedish stainless steel washbacks and a German mash tun.<> March of 2006 sees the release of the first bottling, Preludium 01, at 55.6% ABV followed by 02 and 03 releases.
Trivia:
  • Mackmyra's "Smoke" releases are spiced with juniper brush on a bed of bog-moss peat, from the nearby peat bogs at Karinmossen.
