Release Notes
To celebrate the 5th birthday of our best selling whisky, we have bottled a limited release reserve version of The Peat Monster. Even peatier, smokier, richer and higher-strength than the classic version, it is available only in magnums. Made from just a few humble ingredients - barley dried over peat smoke, water and yeast - you will find few other drinks in the world with such complexity. In this, the whiskymaker's union of earth and water

This appears to have been released solely as a 1.75l edition. The price range given here is for 1.75l bottles.
Yours Truly
3rd Party Tasting Notes
Intense aromas of peet-reek, smoke, seaside character and burnt ropes, with a subtle apple-fruitiness in the background. The palate is full, round and tremendously complex. Water brings out a spice-laden, sweet vanilla character, as well. The finish lasts for many minutes.:
Compass Box Whisky
Compass Box Whiskies celebrates the 5th Anniversary of The Peat Monster by thinking big: bigger intensity and put in a bigger bottle. This bold whisky is packed with Islay and coastal character, showing tarry rope, brine, and a hint of seaweed, along with teasing smoked olive, anise and mustard seed. There is some civility to the whisky: sweeter notes of vanilla wafer, baked apple, ripe peach and cream attempt to soften the blow. Smoke and tar on the finish. Nicely done.:

Nose: peat, rose water, heather
Taste: tangy, floral
Finish: light, almost lemon, spikes in the back
Alex Gurevich
Nose: just a hint of peat and a little sour, doesn't bode well for me
Taste: but not as peaty as expected... actually just the right amount... dare I say a hint (odd for a 'Peat Monster')
Finish: the peat doesn't linger, the rest does and it's delicious
Balance: the nose (and the name) throws me; but really quite good!
David Drell
Nose: light, sweet honey
Taste: light body, good amount of peat, pretty
Finish: mellow and spicy, very nice
Balance: very nice, light and peaty but not too much
Doug Seiden
Nose: butter dough, peat, so well crafted
Taste: slightly sour and astringent, disappears a little under burn
Finish: sour note lingers
Balance: bit of a letdown from the nose, water brings out wood

There is a freedom an outsider has in a tradition-bound business. After many years in the wine trade, John Glaser, an American, entered the world of Scotch whisky. Learning his art through one of the industry"s largest companies John developed a passion for Scotch whisky and dreamt of starting his own company. In 2000 he started the Compass Box Whisky Company fine-tuning his first whiskies in his kitchen. Known for seeking evolutions of traditional techniques, particularly in oak maturation, he says, "Our role at Compass Box is to nurture the roots of tradition in order to grow the possibilities." Today, John Glaser is considered one of the most respected whiskymakers of his generation.
