Release Notes
We put a blend of malted barley and Breton granite-filtered water through a double distillation process to make this whisky. It is aged for many years in oak barrels in our Breton distillery cellars, and then transferred to sherry casks for further maturation.
Warenghem
Armorik is a true single malt distilled from peat smoked barley, which is malted and fermented in true Celtic fashion. It is distilled twice and aged slowly in Sherry and Port casks. Armorik boasts a truly unique, perfectly rounded flavor with a strong cask influence. Its moderately peated with a fruit-driven palate framed in subtle spice and salty notes. Round, mellow, yet rich in the mouth. The Celtic tradition in Brittany is long and cultural ties to their nothern cousins is clear with this wonderful single malt. Finally the age old question is answered, the French CAN make whisky!

Michael Jackson, Whisky Magazine #24
Nose: ounded and fruity to start: baked apple, honey, peach stone. Water brings out a damp straw/hay note and more 'foresty' aromas of nut, moss, fern and leaf.:
Palate: the baked apple note is there along with a youthful spiciness. A sweet mid-palate and good balance.
Finish: A little short.
Comment: An extremely well-made, if young, spirit. One to watch.
Rating: 80/100

The Breton whisky is not only distributed via supermarket chains, you will also find it present in Hotels and restaurants. Warenghem Distillery is dedication to export to Germany, Japan, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The Warenghem distillery produces both blended and single malt whiskies. Traditonal double distillation in small copper stills technique is used. Aging happens in oak casks coming from the "Parc d"Armorique" and are finished in Xeres casks.
In 1987, Gilles Leizour created the first Breton whisky: WB, made of 25% malt and 75% grain whisky. In the meanwhile, another product, Armorik, a Breton single malt, has completed the line.
Brittany is another celtic country, and the climate seems to be good for whisky maturation: iodine, wind, sea. The source is situated under the distillery and its water s filtered by the granite layers of the Breton soil.
The distillery has been managed successively by Henri Warenghem, Paul-Henri Warenghem and Yves Leizour. In 1983 the current manager, Gilles LEIZOUR, took the distillery over.
